Z-Palette Eyeshadow Depotting!

I bought a medium-sized Z-Palette at Ulta and finally got several eyeshadows depotted! It wasn’t as easy as people have said it is!

The Z-Palette is a large magnet inside. Most eyeshadows are set into a metal pot. But in case they aren’t in metal, the Z-Palette comes with this assortment of flat metals in the shape of circles and rectangles. They have a peel-off sticker on the back to that you can affix them to the bottom of your non-metal eyeshadow pans.

By far, the most difficult part of this project was getting the eyeshadow pans out of their containers. I had many individual shadows with pans that were set in tight plastic cases.

Z-Palette sells expensive heat units that I didn’t want to buy. I called Studio Gear (where several of my shadows were purchased) to ask for the best way to get their shadows out of the pan. The person I spoke to suggested I buy a mug warmer, like the one shown in the picture above. For $10, that was a great idea!

You have to watch the eyeshadow on the mug warmer and not walk away. I set the timer on my phone for 20 seconds, and I moved the eyeshadow around on the warmer every 5 seconds.

I used different tools to removed the “warmed” eyeshadow pans because I hadn’t yet purchased the tools shown above. That was a mistake! I should have purchased these first.

I used a metal nail file and another metal pointed tool I’ve had for a long time - and that broke when I used it on one of the eyeshadows! I’ve had that tool for almost 40 years.

So buy these spatulas first. These come in a set of 4. You will need 3 spatulas at a time to wedge the warmed pan out of its plastic casing.

When I was done, the opened Z-Palette looked like this!

All of the pans I used were metal.

However, the glue on the bottom of each pan was still there and you can’t put the glue on the magnet. I cut small pieces of paper and stuck them on. You can also purchase small circles of stickers and place those on the backs to cover the glue. Then you can write on the sticker the brand and color.

I love it! No more searching for multiple individual eyeshadows or small 4-eyeshadow quads.
